Lawson is located 40 minutes north of downtown Kansas City. This community of 2,300 offers the perfect small town environment with all the basic amenities. The community offers a lumber yard, two banks, hair salons, accountants and tax services, insurance companies, dog groomer, restaurants and drinking establishments, a gym, gas stations and convenience stores, pharmacy with soda fountain, tanning salons, health care professionals, fast food establishments, real estate offices, veterinarian and animal hospital, auction service, retail shops, auto repair businesses, investment counselor, feed/agricultural store, a weekly newspaper, car washes, etc.

The Lawson School District consists of approximately 93 square miles in northwest Missouri. The majority of the district is located in Ray County, with portions in Clinton and Clay counties. The population of the district is approximately 8,000. With a location of less than 20 miles from the greater Kansas City area, the Lawson community has become a suburban retreat for the city and continued modest yearly growth is projected.
